No matter how many times you get the child to fill out a division work sheet, or produce division assignments, there is no promise of that child being able to continually deliver with an ability to successfully perform division problems. You need to ensure that the child can relate to the division technique and be taught in a way that they actually respond to. Mindlessly filling out worksheets and booklets often proves to be worthless to many children.
Third grade math can be difficult for some children, as they´re expected to draw upon their experience from K-2 to tackle relatively complex math problems including multiplication and division. As a parent, you should work with your child during this crucial period in his or her education, as struggling kids will undoubtedly continue to struggle unless they receive encouragement, differentiated instruction and plenty of practice.
During classroom time, you can even make division activities more interactive. Create groups of students in the classroom and give them all some objects like marbles, or other small objects. You can tell your students how many they have, and how they should divide out the marbles with their friends. This will quickly help them understand the basics of division, and added onto an understanding of adding, subtracting and multiplying they´ll soon be on their way to understanding more complex parts of their mathematics curriculum. Keep your students interested, and if you´re helping your children, remember to keep encouraging them. No matter how hard they find it, they´ll soon get the hang of it.
